Sausage Of The Week- Pork & Mustard

Here’s a nice traditional sausage with a little added bit to tickle your taste buds. We’ve combined our best prime pork with the tang of English Mustard to create a beautiful flavour. The first recorded use of mustard was found in Apicus, a Roman cook book from around the 4th Century, although it’s very likely that the Romans had been grinding mustard seeds into a paste long before then. In this case it was used as a glaze for roast boar, which isn’t very far away from our own use in these sausages. So why not get a taste of the Roman life and pick up a pound of these lovelies? You’ll get it for half price when bought with a pound of any other sausage. This is limited to one pound of half price sausages per customer.

Cutting through the beautiful blue cheese flavour is the tang of the smallest member of the onion family. Chives have been cultivated since the middle ages but their use can be traced back over 5000 years. The Romans believed that they could relieve sunburn and the pain from a sore throat. So while there are still a few colds about, why not soothe your throat with this tasty sausage? It’s got to be better than a Locket. After all, who wants mash with that? This weeks Sausage of the Week is Pork, Sage & Apple!

Historically, Sage was known to provide health benefits. Used primarily as a tea, sage was drunk in moderation to alleviate headaches and sore throats as well as aid digestion, but we don’t want you to drink these sausages, we want you to eat them!

Award-winning MeganThis is Megan’s award winning sausage with a superb fruity taste. Try it with fresh veg or on its own in a bun. The picture shows Megan in 2007 collecting the BPEX Young Sausage Maker Champion award for a traditional pork sausage. Sausage making clearly runs in the family!

Sweet ChestnutThis week’s sausage is Pork and Chestnut. This combines the most succulent ground pork with the soft, sweet flesh of sweet chestnuts. Chestnuts are the only nuts that contain vitamin C, so these sausages are good for you! Sadly the vitamin content is reduced once cooked, so it would be a stretch to describe these delicious sausages as one of your five a day! However, they will definitely tantalise your taste buds.
