To those in the know pie making is more of an art than a science and it takes years of experience to produce really high quality pastries. Andrew and Lee from Bradwell Butchery, Bakery and Delicatessen met up with pie master Peter Mellors last week to tap into some of his extensive knowledge of the subject. At 71, Peter knows almost all there is to know about pastry and pie making, but he’s still eager to improve his performance, despite having already won many of the industry’s most coveted awards.
Andrew met Peter at the Newark Livestock competition and instantly knew he was in the presence of greatness. Upon tasting his wares, Andrew had a personal message for Peter. He said “I can see you have that wonderful passion in your eyes, you want to produce the best pies ever made, and I believe you have achieved it! There are none better!” This is praise indeed since the Bradwell Butchery already turns out some of the best pies in East Anglia.
Clearly Andrew wanted to learn more. He was keen to develop the great pies made at the Butchery into stupendous ones. The only answer was a personal meet up with Peter. Thanks to his generous advice and guidance, your Bradwell pies will taste even better than ever. Andrew’s invested in a pie press and 9 different dies. This is the equipment that produces pie pastry shapes, so you can look forward to yet more pies and tarts being developed in future. Look out for the new pies as they start being introduced in the coming weeks.
