Our chickens are naturally-fed and barn reared, free to roam and interact with each other, are produced to the highest welfare standards and taste like real chicken. We also stock DIAPER POULTRY’S ST. GEORGE’S BIRDS which are reared in smaller flock sizes by individual farmers who are passionate about the welfare of their animals. We also we stock SUTTON HOO FREE RANGE BIRDS, derived from a traditional breed of chicken, living in small groups in naturally lit and ventilated mobile houses. They range freely over acres of pasture adjacent to the Anglo-Saxon burial site of Sutton Hoo, hence the name. Their diet, mainly wheat, does not contain antibiotics, growth promoters or drugs of any kind. These birds taste like chicken used to! Sutton Hoo chickens are more expensive but their lifestyle, diet and the fact they are a naturally slower growing old fashioned birds combine to give the meat a wonderful texture and delicious full flavour.
Gressingham Duck is a cross between the wild Mallard and the Peking strains. It is unique for its eating characteristics – succulent and juicy with a rich gamey flavour. The welfare of the ducks is a priority and they are hatched and reared in an open environment with natural light and ventilation. Our Christmas White and Bronze Turkeys are from Bedingfield in Suffolk and are reared in the same way. We also stock Peel’s Free Range Norfolk Blacks, which have a much more traditional gamey flavour.
